Babes of Bass Interview #4: Mary Droppinz
Same Same But Different Festival was chalk full of female talent, including Mary Droppinz. While on the ground at SSBD, Bass n Babes founder Baby Kush had a chance to chat with Mary Droppinz and learn more about her journey and inspirations. Check it out!
Baby Kush: Who has inspired you on your artistic journey?
Mary Droppinz: LP Giobbi is a woman who has inspired me. And she’s really been a guiding light and worked super hard and really paved her own path.
Baby Kush: What advice do you have for your younger self?
Mary Droppinz: I wish I dove in and went full-time right away and not been afraid of doing it.
Baby Kush: What is your advice for aspiring women DJs/producers?
Mary Droppinz: Don’t hold yourself back and really just put yourself out there and share. If I have a mix that I recorded and then like halfway through it's a little crunchy and it's not perfect, I’m not going to trip on one little part, I’m still going to put it out. Just don’t hold yourself back.
Baby Kush: What is your dream b2b set?
Mary Droppinz: I had a great one with Flava D, I definitely want to run it back with her again. And honestly I would love to go back to back with Four Tet.
Baby Kush: What is your most memorable fan interaction?
Mary Droppinz: I was DJing at Burning Man and this awesome group of people came up and they held up a sign and she was like saying we came to Burning Man for you. Whoa! That’s so awesome! Fans, fam, homies, supporters, whatever it's all kind of the same.
Baby Kush: What will your legacy be?
Mary Droppinz: Gamechanger, being at the forefront, being multi genre. My legacy will be that I really came in and brought something different to spaces that might not have been ready yet, but then they actually were.
